Question 1

Is my log uploaded anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. Your log is read and shown in your browser and is never sent to us. A share link keeps the log inside the link itself, after the # sign, which browsers do not send to any server.

Question 2

What kinds of logs does it read?

Accepted Answer

JSON lines (one JSON object per line), logfmt (key=value), and plain text with a timestamp and level. Stack traces from Java, JavaScript, Python and Go are kept with the line they belong to.

Question 3

How does sharing work?

Accepted Answer

Tail squeezes the text and puts it in the link. If you set a passphrase, the text is also locked with it, so the link alone is useless. Send the passphrase a different way. Because there is no server, we cannot take a link back once you have sent it.

Question 4

Does it remove passwords and personal data?

Accepted Answer

It hides common ones before sharing: tokens and keys, passwords in key=value, emails, mobile numbers, card, Aadhaar and PAN numbers. It cannot catch everything, so read what you share.

Question 5

How big a log can I share?

Accepted Answer

You can open logs of up to about 20 MB. A share link can hold roughly a few hundred KB of log text once squeezed, depending on how repetitive it is. Filter first and share only the lines shown to make it smaller.
